We recently had some inquiries about how Alfalfa affects our pets and why it is included in our BARF World Diets, so we decided we would share the reason with you.
Did you know that Alfalfa is actually a great source of fiber and protein, and some varieties contain beneficial vitamins and minerals? Yes, we know that Alfalfa is in the legume family, and there are studies that state legumes may cause heart disease in dogs, but that is not entirely true.
It is actually the Alfalfa seeds that have a toxic amino acid which may cause allergic reactions in some dogs. It is only when you feed fresh Alfalfa which carries the risk that bacteria is present in the sprouts. Alfalfa supplements are best used in a powder form and can be implemented in your dog’s daily diet.
